1st Annual SAW Festival
Local clinic works to raise money to bring in a dentist
In an effort to raise money to possibly add a dentist’s office to the other services already offered by Sandhills Community Health Center, the clinic recently held a Sausage, Art and Wine (SAW) Festival.
The SAW Festival was held at the VFW Hall in Towner on January 30th and more than 120 people came out to enjoy a night of food, wine, art and shopping. Local people were treated to different sausages made by the ten contestants and got to pick their favorites and cast their votes. Winning sausage recipes belonged to Rick Bauer who came in 1st Place Sausage; Mike Bryn who came in 2nd Place Sausage; and Tyler Smette who placed 3rd. Other entries were brought in by Shaun James, Lloyd Gardner, Rob Pollman, Darin Buer, Paul Rosencrans, Gerard Deibert, and Mary Hermanson. Wine tasting and sales were provided by Dakota Hills Winery. Local artists on hand to display their work were Tam Goodman-Wisthoff and Andy Knudson. Several vendors were also on hand with everything from jewelry and purses to health care products. Vendors included Brenda Foster with Tastefully Simple; Leann Cargo with Tumbleweeds & Turquoise; Sandy England with Arbonne; Dianne Jaeger with Pampered Chef; Nancy Boettcher with Cowgirl Style; Ilene Mattern with Shaklee; Laurie Odden with Cookie Lee Jewelry; and June Burgard with Baked Goods. Organizers of the event were pleased with the turnout and all proceeds raised by it will go to benefit a potential dental clinic.
